WHITTIER, CALIF – Michelle De La Vara is busy organizing and renovating the well-known studio
where generations of local families went to have personal histories and precious memories captured.
She is deeply aware that the transition is much more than a renovation. She is recreating a special space
that many consider part of their own family tradition, while at the same time honoring her talent and
the grit it took to bring her to this moment and place.
Effective September 1 De La Vara took over the lease of photographer Rebecca Merlino’s studio
which has been open more than 35 years in uptown Whittier. De La Vara will continue to offer the
portrait and studio sittings for which Merlino became renowned. In addition, De La Vara has earned
multiple awards for her portraits and she also offers extensive services in event photography.
“I’m excited and honored to begin this chapter of my life,” said De La Vara. “After 20 years
building a successful marketing firm I discovered my passion for photography. I took one class and
became obsessed with photography as an art. From there I never looked back. The last four years have
been spent developing my skills to this point where I can confidently step into this role and earn the
trust of artists like Rebecca.”
The studio is currently undergoing renovations but will re-open early October under Michelle De
La Vara Photography. Merlino will provide final sittings for current clients, by appointment, until the end
of the year. For more information contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
